I have one thing to say to the organizers of technology conferences: if you want to make sure that you include the "female perspective" to your program, just invite women to speak about the things they're doing. Putting smart people to discuss under a separate "women & technology" category is not doing the job.

What to leave at home: Your cheesy "Texas" clothes. No one likes a tool. This includes your ratty grizzly (that's the bent-up cowboy hat you bought somewhere trendy), your thriftstore cowboy boots, and your cut-offs. If you must make similar purchases while you're here, buy them at Allen's on South Congress and keep them in your hotel room. Caveat: exemptions are granted for western shirts on stage.

The South by Southwest Film Festival recently released their complete lineup of this year's short films. All told, 130 - ranging from documentary and experimental to narrative shorts - are to be shown from March 10-18.
