BOOM -- Berkeley Orders of Magnitude -- Declarative Languages And Systems
(via)Many say that "The Cloud" will be the next game-changing computing platform. The race is on to define and capture it.
Historically, new platforms take off when independent developers start to make innovative use of their unique features. In the case of Cloud Computing, that means exploiting distributed systems in a datacenter. Up to now there's been no widely-used programming model that lets developers easily coordinate the distributed power of a datacenter.
Enter BOOM, an effort to explore implementing Cloud software using disorderly, data-centric languages. BOOM stands for the Berkeley Orders Of Magnitude project, because we seek to enable people to build systems that are OOM bigger than are building today, with OOM less effort than traditional programming methodologies.

The Joel on Software Discussion Group (CLOSED) - Why I Hate Frameworks
by 4 others (via)"So this week, we're introducing a general-purpose tool-building factory factory factory, so that all of your different tool factory factories can be produced by a single, unified factory. The factory factory factory will produce only the tool factory factories that you actually need, and each of those factory factories will produce a single factory based on your custom tool specifications. The final set of tools that emerge from this process will be the ideal tools for your particular project. You'll have *exactly* the hammer you need, and exactly the right tape measure for your task, all at the press of a button (though you may also have to deploy a few *configuration files* to make it all work according to your expectations)."

7 Reasons To Hate Your Code « yield thought
"Incompetence is the cause of many ills in the software world, but increasingly I’m seeing a certain kind of competence as being just as destructive. You see, there are a lot of programmers who care deeply about their code. I did, but it turns out there are good reasons we shouldn’t do that; reasons why we should hate our code…"
