Pooln

Social network for carpooling. Could be useful if they can reach a critical mass, but clearly there's no real business model here.

Clipmarks

by 41 others
Social bookmarking service that lets you grab images and text from a web page and share your "clips" with the community. I find the interface far too cluttered, but the functionality isn't bad at all.

Kayak

by 24 others
Vertical search engine for travel - flights, hotels and car rentals. The design is far too simplistic for my liking, but the use of ajax really speeds up the form submission. The business model is advertising and sponsored links, which could work out if it proves popular.

Pageflakes

One of many ajax start pages. Not a bad attempt, but these guys will have their work cut out if they want to beat Netvibes. They're trying to create a platform for developers to create new widgets, which sounds sensible in the face of tough competition.

MyStickies

by 32 others
Browser extension that lets you put virtual sticky notes on web pages. The major drawback is that stickies aren't sharable right now. Without the option to share your stickies with others, MyStickies won't realize network effects.

ZohoChat

by 4 others
Web-based instant messaging. Unlike Meebo and Mabber, ZohoChat is a standalone service - it doesn't aggregate your current IM clients. It's not a bad app, but most people don't want yet another siloed instant messenger.

Near-Time

Online collaboration spaces - similar to a hosted wiki. Reminds me of Basecamp. Fairly standard feature set.

Mabber

Web-based instant messaging. Similar to Meebo, but chat client opens in a new browser window. Pretty good. There's also a mobile version for your phone.

Top-notch photo sharing community. Astoundingly good. Rocks!

Magnoto

by 1 other
Blogging site that lets you place your posts and photos on a “refrigerator door”. Horrible, tacky and patronizing. Terrible idea.

VideoBomb

by 25 others
Video aggregator with user ratings. Basically like Digg for video. Fun to use, but looks a bit too much like Digg for my liking.

CoComment

by 60 others
Tool for tracking your comments around the blogosphere. Fills a huge need for most bloggers - excellent idea. No word on the business model yet.

Del.icio.us

by 144 others
Excellent social bookmarking tool. Great for power users, a little confusing for beginners.

Kratia

by 6 others
Yet another search engine that lets you vote and comment on the results. Similar to Wink and Seekum. Very limited in functionality.

Writeboard

by 17 others
Web-based word processor. Very limited in terms of features. Writely provides a much richer experience.

Writely

Excellent web-based word processor. WYSIWYG interface. Definitely the best in its class, and getting better all the time.
