Canon XSi/450D

by ghis
"After agonizing for weeks over which digital single lens reflex camera to buy, I bought the Canon XSi /450D, my first DSLR. The XSi has several improvements over its predecessor: a faster processor, improved nine-point autofocus, Live View with dual autofocus modes, spot metering, a larger LCD screen and a larger, brighter viewfinder. It also has an updated menu system. In these blog entries, I share my settings and experiences with the XSi, as well as what I’ve learned about using a DSLR."

How to convert raw cr2 pictures with linux, and merge pictures by date and Exif data with jhead

by ghis (via)
"I recently went to an event with a coworker who took pictures with an SLR Canon Camera that took cr2 raw pictures. My goal was to convert them to jpeg, and integrate them with my own pictures (merging/interleaving them by date using the picture data inside cr2 and Exif for my jpegs)"

Canon 7D – Quick Initial Impressions and Comparison to 5D Mark II « Trent Chau : Photography

by nhoizey
"Where the 5D Mark II is a slow, methodical camera that produces amazing image quality, the 7d is it’s spunky little brother that works twice as fast and while the images aren’t exactly the same quality as it’s bigger brother, those images still look pretty damn good. "

iPhone app lets you shoot remotely with your Canon DSLR - Nikon support coming

by srcmax & 1 other
Now here’s an app many creative professionals might find useful. The DSLR Remote iPhone app lets you trigger your camera’s shutter, adjust almost any of its settings, and view photos it’s taken. The catch, unfortunately, is that the camera needs to be wired to a computer for this to work. Even so, I can think of plenty of situations where this could come in handy, though admittedly there are few where a professional would absolutely need it. Still, the more tools you have, the more versatile your whole setup is, and who wouldn’t want to snap pics via their iPhone anyway?

by nhoizey

Camera Hacks: Turn Your Point-and-Shoot into a Super-Camera

by nhoizey
The Canon Hacker's Development Kit, aka CHDK, is a firmware enhancement that supports an impressive array of Canon digital cameras. I emphasize the enhancement aspect of CHDK because the tool is non-permanent and non-destructive
